I agree about the Spindlefrog top - some arrived in the post this morning, and it's lovely. Great minds think alike? I also happen to have a slab of Oliver Twist silk similar to yours that I bought at AP last year. It needs a lot of drafting - I think there's still some sericin in it - but I like most of what I'm getting from it. Photos in my handspun on Ravelry (sarahw). I pull strips off the side of the slab (thin ones to start with), then work with my fingers to start separating the fibres in the more solid bundles. Then I pre-draft the strip, 'snapping' the silk quite hard with my hands about 5" apart. Too hard and the strip will separate, not hard enough and nothing happens. Normally I'd just pull on the strip gently, but that just gets chunks of this sliding: the shock of the 'snap' seems to separate the fibres nicely. Good luck!sarahhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16291326380557787987noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14933236.post-66732079579181879602008-10-16T15:30:00.000+01:002008-10-16T15:30:00.000+01:00That Spindlefrog roving is just so beautiful! I walked past and thought I recognise that woman but couldn't remember who it was and I'm pretty sure now it was you. don't rmember which stall it was I spotted you. I didn't buy any fiber at Ally Pally. I must have missed the fibre at Socktopus because hte only thing I bought there was Camelspin. I loved the day but then I havne't been to Woolfest or Iknit yet. Thought it was quieter than last year though.Annihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10122611175307125751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14933236.post-65451014977064796572008-10-15T18:22:00.000+01:002008-10-15T18:22:00.000+01:00Love the colours of your fibres - can't quite deci...Love the colours of your fibres - can't quite decide which I like best but maybe it's the calm snuggly caramel that whispers suggestively!
The Honeycomb is looking lovely - great colour too. I think you can get more of the "rarer" yarns online now and I don't miss the crowds. That and FoQ sucks up all my available cash!

I love your Honeycomb. I've swatched it but found it unbearably fiddly. How are you doing the cables? Also I got a dark olive green yarn and it's sadly not really my colour.Mandellahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08954514481537944916noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14933236.post-88531220221605102122008-10-14T22:01:00.000+01:002008-10-14T22:01:00.000+01:00I agree with you about Ally Pally, I was really ke...I agree with you about Ally Pally, I was really keen for a while but I haven't been for 2 years now and I find that smaller shows dedicated to more independent suppiers are much more interesting for me.Janeynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14933236.post-61962413971540375432008-10-14T20:02:00.000+01:002008-10-14T20:02:00.000+01:00Oh that blackberry crumble is next on my spin list...Oh that blackberry crumble is next on my spin list:)celadon2http://celadon2.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.com
